All Bundled Up: Dressing for the (Texas) Cold

It is finally cold in Houston! Wait, have you missed all the videos where I’m constantly mentioning that I recently re-located off the East Coast (Washington, DC) for the sunnier and warmer lands of Texas?! Well there’s always someone who is late to the party. And while I was told that Southern Texas, for the most part, only experiences warm, hot and hotter with thunderstorms seasons, the temperature is hovering right around 45-50° and folks out here are hibernating like it’s a proper winter. I was apt to complain about the cold with the rest of the Houstonians but then I recalled last year’s horrid winter and I just said a prayer of thanks to baby Jesus. I am grateful. Even more grateful that I have the opportunity to work with Sears on their #SearsStyle campaign!

Since most of the country is experiencing sweater weather, wintertime and then a slither of us are experiencing a chilly breeze with the last of those California bums waving their warm weather in our faces, #SearsStyle is showing you how to bundle up in style!

ThiAuthorLogos is my first winter in Houston and I’m still conflicted about how much I should be bundling up. Like if it’s cold in the morning and I walk out in a heavy sweater will I be super hot by mid-afternoon when the temperature rises? So what I’ve stuck to doing is wearing layers. Usually a jacket that’s heavy enough to be outwear and light enough in appearance to keep on in doors without people constantly asking me if I’m cold, lol.  Enter the super cute and cost effective Metaphor cobalt jacket ($35.99). This was the first thing I grabbed when I strolled into Sears, as it caught my eye from the door and is a great piece that you can throw over any dress. Boyfriend jeans are super in right now and I decided to give something other than my typical skinny jean a try. I picked up a pair of Metaphor slim boyfriend jeans ($29.99) in a light wash. There’s something about a pair of distressed light blue jeans that I really love and these jeans were the right texture and color for the versatile daytime look I was going for. The shirt is interchangeable as I actually picked up a few shirts because I couldn’t make up my mind and I have a silly disdain for dressing rooms. I settled on this cranberry colored Covington 2-pocket blouse ($19.99) with the rolled up button detail on the shoulder.

It’s the holiday season and I was thinking of what I would wear to Thanksgiving dinner that was dressy enough cause you know I’m always on fleek, but casual enough that I would be comfortable in it all day and after I eat a cow + two pigs. So the flouncy-ness of the blouse while still a shirt that I could wear to the office or out for dinner was the perfect fit for this outfit.  I finished off the ‘fit with a pair of generic nude pumps, but you can rock any sort of shoe depending on the occasion with this ensemble. A ballet flat, heeled boot or pump would all be a go.

What do you think of my outfit? What’s the last thing you purchased from Sears? Let me know in the comments down below!
I’ll be back in Sears next week to pick up this dresser I’ve been eyeing. Can’t wait!

It’s more than a gift. It’s the joy of the season. #MoreThanAGift.
