How to Make Classy & Thotful Cocktails

It was a rough day in January and like a true millennial I decided to bury my grief by drinking. Okay, maybe I already had this collaboration scheduled and the universe conspired to make sure I could get through the sudden fall out of a project I’d been working on for two years. My woes is not what this post is about though.

I’m forever bemused, when making new acquaintances, when I happen a grown, full adult Black person who sits down at the bar and orders a basic ass Long Island Ice Tea. Girl! Everything about a LIIT says “I just want to get wasted.” And we are far too grown to be throwing our morals to the wind so publicly. Oh and please don’t be that over 30 year old person still ordering Amaretto Sours, like you just turned 21 and you’re finally allowed to drink 🤦🏽‍♀️

So rather than be a judgemental Sally, I decided to help my woes and my hoes out and help you live your best thotful life. Keep on doing ratchet things, with your educated friends, and know how to order and make a classy drink or two while you’re at it.

Charlotte based mixologist, Yoshi, walks us through three cocktails that are super easy and budget friendly to make. The first one was my absolute favorite. It’s easy, breezy and très cute, allowing you to mix various fruit in your cocktail as garnish to compliment the Three Olives Rosè Vodka mixed with Rosè Lemonade.

  • 1.5 ozs Three Olives Rosè Vodka
  • Rosè Lemonade
  • Ice
  • Mint
  • Blueberries (or fruit of your choice)

Next up, we made a classic Paloma, a grapefruit based cocktail that’s citrus flavor is so refreshing it will creep up on you.

  • 1.5 ozs Agave based Tequila
  • 1/2 Grapefruit, fresh squeezed (we used Paloma + Ruby Red Grapefruit)
  • Splash of Club Soda

The Mai Tai is a old classic based on gentrifying Polynesian culture. We took the colonizers recipe and symplified it with two different flavor profiles that make this the perfect drink for that friend who never knows what cocktail they want and always ends on “I just want something sweet”. This is sweet, sweet sis. And a drink you can turn into a good show for the friends.

  • 1/2 Orange, Fresh squeezed
  • 1/2 Cup, Pineapple Juice
  • 1/2 Lime, Fresh squeezed
  • 1.5 ozs Bacardi Pineapple Rum
  • Splash of Curaçao or Amaretto
  • *for the fire show, float half lime shell on top of drink, add a splash of Everclear and light on fire 🔥

Now go host a girl’s night and dazzle your guests with your cocktail making skills! We had way too much fun doing this.
